But, but… why?

Yahoo recently told every ISP not to accept any mail with a Yahoo “From” address which isn’t being sent by Yahoo themselves. This is a sure-fire way to prevent address spoofing by spammers, as any messages they try to blast out using a yahoo.com address will be automatically rejected. On the other hand (and this is the biggie for you), legitimate Yahoo senders using ESPs to engage with their target audience (eg. bloggers) will be prevented from doing so. You can get the full nitty-gritty details here.

Oh my, I do use a Yahoo email as my “From” address in E-goi. What should I do?

You can’t use it anymore, either in E-goi or any other ESP. No can do. The best course of action is switching to an address hosted in your own domain (eg. me@mycompanyname.com instead of me@yahoo.com). Hosted addresses can also be manually authenticated in E-goi, which helps improve your deliverability.

Can’t I simply use an email from Gmail, Hotmail and other free providers as a sender?

You can, at least for the time being, but that’s probably not a good idea. AOL has just done the same as Yahoo, with Hotmail and Gmail considering following suit as well. Sending from your own hosted domain address is really the best way to go.

Keep in mind free email addresses have always been meant for one-on-one communication, not email marketing. Yahoo’s move, while a nuisance for legitimate senders on a shoestring, is a bold step to make it happen by putting a huge dent in email spoofing and spamming, which ultimately can only be a good thing.
