How affiliate marketing works
Affiliate marketing might not be easy, and certainly isn’t for every living soul, but there’s an undeniable truth: when done properly, affiliate marketing is the materialization of everyone’s dream – to make money while sleeping.
Think of affiliate marketing as real estate agents. Realtors might own no properties, nor they’re looking to buy one – nonetheless, they are the ones doing sealing the deal. Third parties, such as realtors or affiliates, are commonly the ones doing the grit and grind of advertising and converting leads in clients.
An affiliate is someone who advertises a company’s product (by the means of writing about it on a website or newsletter, placing banner ads on a blog, etc.) and conducts the prospective client into a landing page where they purchase happens. The affiliate then earns a % of the revenue made with the good or service.
Now imagine you write some posts on your website, place a banner or two on the sidebar and then you go to sleep only to wake up a little wealthier. It’s a dream come true, isn’t it? It’s not that difficult, I’m telling you.
What you should do to improve your affiliate marketing game
The SEO way
Search Engine Optimization, have you heard about it or have you been living under a rock? Well, chances are you heard about it. And that is the easiest and perfect way if you’re on a budget.
The strategy is simple: first you need to write informative, comprehensive content about a certain topic related to your affiliate marketing product. Produce as much content as possible, covering a wide range of subjects around the topic. That’s the most important step in your way to highly rank a certain keyword on Google.
Bear in mind, though: writing content is not the only thing you need to care about. Page loading times, link building and popular social network profiles are also important for Google. We’ll write more about the topic in the next few weeks.
The Email Marketing lane
With most affiliate marketing programs, you are given an ID and you have to place such ID in every link you make available to your public (whether it’s an in-text link, a link on a sidebar banner, etc.). That way, the company that’s selling the product you’re advertising will know a certain client came their way because you led them to.
Although it’s important you have some in-text links in relevant articles, as well as sidebar banners, you should improve your game by creating a mailing list and sending it a newsletter in which you promote the product you’re making money off.
Email marketing still has the highest ROI of all the marketing and communication channels and if someone trusted you enough to opt into a mailing list of yours, chances are they trust your opinion enough to make a purchase of a product you recommended.
The ‘trust me, it works’ way
One rookie mistake, often seen in the affiliate market world, is how affiliate partners don’t know the product they’re advertising. The excitement of living off passive income makes them forget they have to know the ins and outs of a product before they advertise it.
Be sincere, that’s rule #1. Every product or service has its advantages and weak points. There’s no reason for you to lie about it. People aren’t dumb. Especially those looking for a certain niche product, or a service targeted for certain professionals, as marketing managers or CEOs.
Besides being honest and coming clean about the product, you should also try it, show how it works and how it improves your own situation. For example, if you’re advertising E-goi, you should use E-goi for your email marketing communications, see the results for yourself and then preach about it.
If you do it well, people will trust your recommendations, follow your lead and invest in the product you’re talking about.
And you’d be making money off of it.
Sometimes in your sleep.
