A baby could be a big pollutant!

Greenpeace, the world’s largest environmental organization, recently published a report which ranked E-goi as the global tech company showing the most concern for the environment through the use of renewable energy.

Want to know what we’ve been doing?

We have recently finished substituting all of our servers, which are now all powered by 100% renewable energies, and we have even invested in wind energy.

The daily energy consumed through the use of our products and services forms a large part of our company’s carbon emissions.  That’s why, and as a way of highlighting Earth Day, we are going to reduce the brightness of all of our users’ screens from today until the 22nd, in order to save energy.

OK, we know it’s not that convenient for you, but it’s for a good cause! With 250 000 users can you imagine how many kwh we could save with your help?

It will be something like this (If it gets hard we suggest you use a candle):

And there are more ways we can help!  But we’ll get to that later. First of all, here are some interesting facts about the environment.

Did you know that…

  • The energy saved by recycling glass bottle is enough to power a 100 W light bulb for four hours.
  • If you heat only the water you really need during any one day, you could save enough power to light up all the streetlights in Portugal.
  • We never think of energy as an asset, but bear in mind that the European Union imports more than half of the energy it consumes. For example, over 50% of its gas comes from only three sources – Russia, Norway and Algeria.
  • A baby could be a big pollutant! Every day, we throw more than 50 million disposable nappies into the rubbish bin and they will take around 500 years to decompose. If the Discoverers had taken Tupperware onto the caravels, it will still be here today (the Tupperware, obviously).

In addition…

Are there daily atrocities where you least expect them? Direct mail is also a culprit! 100 million trees are required every day to produce junk mail (spam!!).

Do you want to help the planet by saving trees?

  • For the post box we suggest this (is a sticker to put in your mailbox in Portugal if you don’t want to receive unaddressed advertising).
  • For email we suggest this.

This man has already done his part by helping this poor bottle…

And you?
