Do you use your full name, or just your surname for new acquaintances? Which one is better? In this context, is similar to ask, regarding IPs to send through your communications: do you use dedicated or shared IPs?

What is a Dedicated IP?
It’s reserved for the exclusive utilisation of a specific entity (sender and/or organisation). Which means, all your communications will have it as the source and no other flow will use it. [Just like your full name, it does identifies who you are, as an individual.]
It’s used by several senders and/or organisations to send out communications.
[This will correspond to your family, a group of individuals sharing that same surname.]
And remembering what the final goal is:
To deliver email communications to the Inbox of its audience.
Which one should I Choose?
The main factors to take into consideration are volume and frequency. You need to get enough volume within a certain period to get noticed and so, to gain a (good, we hope!) reputation on ISPs and consequently, getting those doors inviting your messages in.
Just imagine this: you get to a party venue and start calling at the door, probably it will remain firmly closed because inside, no one can hear you! On the other hand, if you gather all the family and start calling together (even better, singing in harmony!)…you will get notice, and even getting to get those doors wide opened for your melody [message] to freely flow inside.
So the key point here is that if you do not send enough (let’s say around 300k/month), or you only send every-other-week, you should probably be better on a shared environment. As always, there is a ‘but’. Being this scenario no exception: the reputation will be as good as the worst in the family (so, make sure they all get some singing lessons first!). Yep, you are spot on: you do not control what others do, or even who these others (that shared the environment with you) are!
Conclusion
This is the main reason why the Full name is generally considered better, is because it only concerns you and so, you can be a control freak and manage the flow exactly as you wish, which means your reputation will be only influenced by your own actions: “for the good and for the bad”….
My best advise is: Just make sure you know the melody your audience wants to hear, no matter if you go solo, or within a band!
P.S. Do you ever heard about phishing?
Now that you have info on the IPs to consider the best solution on which to use, we will start a series of 3 articles on phishing, through which you will be knowing what it is, what types of phishing exists, how to identify it and how to avoid it.
Did you know that there is, throughout the world, a phishing attack every 30 seconds?
